Summary

Setting: Ibadan, Nigeria and Indianapolis, USA
Start Date: 1992-3
End Date: 1998 Ibadan, 2009 Indianapolis
Participants: 2487 community-dwelling Yoruba residents of Ibadan, and 2212 community-dwelling African American residents of Indianapolis, all aged 65 years or older.
Indianapolis enrichment cohort: 1893 community-dwelling African American residents of Indianapolis aged 70 years or older added in 2001.
Assessment Schedule: Ibadan and original Indianapolis cohort: Baseline, 2- and 5-year follow-ups.
Indianapolis original and enrichment cohorts: 2001 (baseline for the enrichment cohort), with follow-ups every 2-3 years at 2004, 2007, 2009.
Measures: (1) Neuropsychological battery; (2) Physical and neurological examination; (3) Blood for laboratory testing; (4) Head CT scans in subgroup; (5) Dementia diagnoses
