Richard Grellman is using his professional expertise and connections to raise awareness as well as funds for an ongoing corporate philanthropic endowment, named the Dementia Momentum, to support research into the illness which affects 330,000 Australians. His wife Suellen Grellman, was diagnosed with young onset Alzheimer's disease and moved into a residential care facility earlier this year, aged just 63.
Professor Henry Brodaty said research was underfunded given dementia's growing scale. "The government funding is not proportionate to the number of people affected and the projections going ahead," Prof Brodaty said.
Richard Grellman AM, is the chairman of AMP Life Insurance, Genworth Mortgage Insurance and financial services company Crowe Horwath.
He is also a member of CHeBA's Advisory Committee.
