The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) is Australia's peak body for supporting health and medical research; for developing health advice for the Australian community, health professionals and governments; and for providing advice on ethical behaviour in health care and in the conduct of health and medical research. Many of CHeBA's projects are funded by the NHMRC.

CHeBA Co-Director, Scientia Professor Perminder Sachdev is a Peer Reviewer for the NHMRC, and in 2012 was placed on the NHMRC Honour Roll in recognition of his "phenomenal contribution to the Project Grants funding scheme". According to the NHMRC, the "effectiveness and sustainability of NHMRC peer review processes depends on researchers with excellent track records and wide-ranging expertise in Australian and international health and medical research fields."
