PJ Lane, the Underbelly actor and an ambassador for the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing, is gearing up to run in this year's Sun-Herald City 2 Surf, along with Professors Perminder Sachdev and Henry Brodaty, in an attempt to raise funds for research into the age-related brain disorder.

PJ's dad, Don Lane, died in October 2009 at 75 suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

''It's weird with Alzheimer's, all the stuff we do by routine that we take for granted - imagine when that goes. Imagine things as basic as putting one foot in the car first, you forget putting the seatbelt on. You don't know what to do.''
