"After researching dementia and Alzheimer's disease, I discovered how much more research is required about these cognitive diseases, and that there is no cure.  I recalled my mum who ran a home nursing practice under the Department of Veteran Affairs would care for patients with a variety of conditions, and dementia was quite common and a major burden on nurses like her.  If I can do a little bit by being a Fitness Ambassador for CHeBA, it will hopefully raise more awareness of these diseases and help out others who donate so much of their time, with limited funding."

What does "Healthy Brains. Positive Ageing" mean to me?

This is something I've never really thought about until a trip to a health retreat in the Hunter Valley.  The staff talked a lot of what kind of products we put in our foods such as preservatives and how they impact us physically and mentally.  They even taught us how to breathe properly.  Being taught to breathe at 31 years of age seemed a bit strange - how have I been alive for all this time?  But it made sense, as THE most critical component in our body - caring for your brain - is crucial to a long, healthy life.  I learnt that given the brain is the centre of the nervous system, breathing better can regulate your body and mind and I'm now really interested in what else can influence us; good and bad.

Nick is currently the Head of Infrastructure at ansarada in Sydney.  He grew up in the NSW Northern Rivers near Byron Bay and has been actively trying to keep physically fit for more than a decade.  Growing up in a country town and surfing at every opportunity meant Nick kept fit without really trying - although now, being time poor with his career and with the influences of Sydney living and socialising have meant that he has to intentionally make time and effort to keep his fitness in check. Through a combination of gym circuits, work-funded training sessions with Breathe Fire, pilates, yoga and cardio, Nick is stronger and more motivated physically and mentally!  CHeBA is very pleased to welcome Nick to the team of Fitness Ambassadors!
